2016 Schedule Announced
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Head coach Andy Shay announced today the 2016 lacrosse schedule which features four teams that played in last season's NCAA tournament. These teams include Albany, Cornell, Maryland, and Brown. All dates are set, but times are subject to change.
Yale has a challenging schedule with nine of the 13 teams nationally ranked in 2015. The team faces national champion runner-up Maryland at Reese Stadium on Feb. 27, a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament first-round contest.
"We are really excited about our 2016 schedule," said Shay. "Our out of conference slate continues to be very strong and we always feel that our league is one of the toughest in college lacrosse every season."
The Bulldogs lost 11 seniors to graduation, but have nine returning starters along with a talented freshmen class. Four of the leading scorers are back, including sophomore attack Ben Reeves, junior attack Jeff Cimbalista, junior midfielder Eric Scott, and senior midfielder Michael Keasey. Reeves was Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 2015, the first Yale player since 1996.
Defensively, the Elis return junior Camyar Matini, junior Christopher Keating, senior Reilly Naton, and senior captain Michael Quinn, who was third-team All-American last season. Yale boasted the nation's ninth best defense in 2015, allowing only 8.1 goals a game.
2016 should be another strong season by Ivy League teams, with five of the seven ranked in the top-20 last season. Yale was ranked as high as No. 6 in 2015 and finished 11-5.
